Hunter Valley Operations (HVO) is an established large-scale open cut operation, using dragline and truck & shovel mining methods. The mine is located at Lemington, about 24km north-west of Singleton in the Upper Hunter Valley, NSW.

Siltstones, sandstones, and conglomerates predominate in the Maitland Group, which has a probable maximum thickness of 4,000 feet.
